Hello SOOKLOVERS!
It’s no surprise that Korea is popular for its skincare routine, and we, as faithful skincare lovers, decided to explore this world and firsthand experience Korean trends.
After trying and experimenting with their careful routines, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to delve deeper into the secrets behind achieving porcelain-like skin… We wondered, how have trends so different from the traditional managed to travel around the world, and most importantly, why?
The need for a skincare routine in Korea stems from ancient roots and has developed over centuries: one of the most prominent dynasties in Korean history, the Joseon dynasty, contributed to establishing beauty standards that we now consider foundational to Asian culture, such as fair skin.
Exactly around these standards, the need to care for one’s skin was built, through the numerous and well-known steps that form the identity of this routine.
The two pillars around which Korean Skincare is based are hydration and prevention, two of the pillars on which we base our mission here at Sookskincare!
The popularity of this routine can trace its origins back to the 1960s and 1970s, along with the country’s economic growth and Westernization, which has increased the focus on aesthetics and, most importantly, brought it to us.
Still, internationalization reached its peak with the widespread diffusion of K-Pop culture around the year 2000.
Since then, Korea has quickly climbed the podium of the cosmetics industry, staying on top every day more, thanks to the effectiveness and variety of its products.
